My Review:I'll admit right off the top here that there are a few series that I read for the secret pleasure. This series is one of those. There's nothing even remotely believable about the military setup, but I'm okay with putting disbelief aside to read this one...because flat out, I enjoy the books. I like Connor and Shawn and the drama in their oh-so-very-fake lives. I'm okay with that. I know what I'm going to get going into the story. ;)
This book isn't quite as harsh as the first book in the series in the details of the mission the guys are on, but that doesn't mean it's not harrowing...because it really, really is. I bought this book and planned on just reading a chapter or two. A few hours later, I closed out the book on my kindle...completely finished with it. I honestly had no intention of doing that today. I had other things to get done, but that is the allure of these stories. They suck you in and you can't look away.
While I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, I did still find it riveting and can't wait to dive into book #3 in the series....AFTER I get my work done...LOL

After reading the first book in this series, Broken Soldier, I was torn apart and stitched back together with Shawn and Connor's emotional, dramatic and disturbing story. When I heard the author was giving them a second book, I approached with eagerness and a bit of trepidation after how the first one put me through the wringer--but still very ready for more. While Rogue Soldier wasn't as distressing, it still had me tied up in knots on the edge of my seat-and still wrenched my emotions around until the very end.
Connor and Shawn have come out of the events from book one stronger together than before, protective of each other and each very aware of what the other goes through. Things go sideways during the op at the beginning of this story, and it's Shawn's turn to help Connor deal with the outcome. Shawn shows patience and a level of understanding that makes it obvious he knows what Connor is going through. But before everything can be worked through, Shadow Unit is pulled away for a different op with someone from Shawn's past who clearly riles him up-and not in a good way. From the moment Julian enters the picture, I had just as bad a feeling about him as Shawn did.
The action and excitement continues to build with every page, as does the passion and heat between Shawn and Connor-even when things between them become difficult. The stress on them from the ops as well as from a curveball thrown at Connor from his commander ramps the tension of the story up at the same time things are getting even more strained from the dangerous op they are on. While Julian's actions may be just what we expect, the result for Connor is devastating-and shows readers exactly how dedicated to him Shawn is.
The story is thrilling and packs plenty of action-it had me riveted to the pages, not wanting to put it down until I was done. And just when I thought I wasn't going to be torn up on the emotional front...I was. I was thoroughly invested in Shawn and Connor in Broken Soldier, and here in Rogue Soldier, I became even more so-which made my reaction to what happens to Connor that much more emotional.
Rogue Soldier was a 4.5-star read for me, and I do highly recommend it, especially to M/M military romance fans. You'll get the action you crave alongside passion and intrigue. While I suppose you could read this as a standalone, I would strongly advise you read Broken Soldier first, it really sets the stage for Shawn and Connor's relationship and will give you better insight into the two characters. This story is strictly for the 18+ crowd for adult language, violence during military operations, and explicit M/M sexual content-which is scorching hot.
Shawn Weller and Conner Finley have recovered from their ordeal in Kuala Lumpur. They spent a month healing both their physical as well as their emotional wounds, now they’re closer and stronger than ever!
Shadow Unit have just finished an op in the Kashmir region of Northern India that didn’t end well. Conner is having trouble deciding whether he’ll accept a promotion that will see him leaving Shadow Unit for another called Ghost Squad. Taking the promotion would be the end of his relationship with Shawn since Shawn hasn’t taken the news as well as he’d hoped. In fact, Shawn gave Conner an ultimatum; the promotion or me! Just as Conner is thinking he’s made up his mind they get the call to join the CIA on a joint operation, the only problem with this is the lead operative for the CIA is Shawn’s ex-handler/lover Julian Montgomery.
Julian has decided he wants Shawn back, the only thing wrong with his plan is that Shawn can’t stand him ad refuses to even talk to him. Shawn doesn’t feel right about the op and tries to convince his commanding officer there’s something wrong but every time it’s considered it all checks out. Shawn knows Julian will go to any lengths to get what he wants and if him showing up in Shawn and Conner’s room naked is any indication, Julian is going to play as dirty as he knows to get him back.
You can feel Conner’s heart breaking when he realises what Julian is up to, added to the fact that Shawn and he aren’t exactly on speaking terms and Conner is feeling lost. But, at least he’s been forewarned he’ll now keep his guard up around Julian. The closer to the mission they get the surer both Conner and Shawn are that something isn’t right. Conner is kidnapped in the aftermath of the botched raid. Conner is then used as a “test subject”, after being beaten and tortured he is injected with a lethal poison that no-one has ever survived.
Will Shawn and Shadow Unit find Conner in time? Will Shawn and Conner remain partners? You are going to have to get your own copy of Rogue Soldier to get the answers. Make sure you’ve read Broken Soldier first.
Conner and Shawn have been through a lot together but when a ghost from Shawns past comes back can they survive what's to come. These two are so great for each other and compliment each other. Loved every moment of this one.
